Start your kids on the path to financial success with a Student Debit Account from Scott Credit Union. It is like a checking account without the checks! It’s perfect for teenagers & young adults who have never used a debit card before and are managing their money for the first time. In order to qualify for the Student Debit Account, you must be between 13 and 22 years old.
Earn 0.30% APY1 on your Student Debit Account balances up to $25,000 when you meet these simple requirements:
- Sign up to receive eStatements instead of paper statements.
- Have 12 debit card transactions posted and cleared by the end of the last business day each month.
Even if you don’t meet the minimum requirements, Student Debit account will still function with no monthly fee and pays 0.01% APY!

Stay on top of everything with eAlerts
eAlerts are free to use and allow you to have an email or text message sent to you when certain events occur in your accounts.4 You can set eAlerts to notify you when your balance falls below a certain amount, a large purchase or ATM withdrawal is made, or even anytime your account is accessed via SCU Online. You can add and remove eAlerts at any time through the SCU Online navigation menu.
Earn more on your money
Make your money work for you just by using your debit card and saving trees with electronic statements. When you meet the minimum monthly requirements, Student Debit will allow you to earn up to 0.30% APY1 on the first $25,000 in your account!
Parental online account monitoring & fund transfer capability (for those under 18).
When your child under the age of 18 opens a Student Debit account and you are listed as the secondary, you will have access to view their account and make free transfers to them via SCU Online & SCU Mobile. So, monitoring their account is as easy as monitoring your own account!
No monthly maintenance fees
We don’t charge a monthly or annual maintenance fee with Student Debit like most of the big banks. Fees such as insufficient funds and returned checks do still apply, but we work to keep them low. View our fee schedule here.

10.30% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) paid on balances up to $25,000, and 0.05% APY paid on all amounts above $25,000 each cycle the minimum requirements are met. If you do not meet the requirements per qualification cycle, your account will still function with no monthly fee and with your balance earning 0.01% APY; however, it will not receive ATM fee rebates for that time period. Rates as of January 4, 2021. We may change the interest rate at any time after the account is opened. Available to personal accounts only.
